Profile

Titoki is a Kiwi through and through. She was built in Auckland in 1981 and named after a native flowering tree from the Mangakahia Valley on the North Island. She came to Australia in 1985 and raced out of Middle Harbour through the 1990s during which time a sugar-scoop transom, extended keel and rudder were added. The boat was sold in the early 2000's and retired to Lake Macquarie. Tim Binns bought her in 2018 and gave her an extensive refit to return her to offshore racing condition, which included the addition of a bowsprit. She sails double-handed with Binns and his partner Frances Beaumont, both ex-Navy, who are equally at home in She Sails events and Bass Strait. Titoki won Overall Handicap Honours at this year's Heaven Can Wait Regatta. Last year didn't go to plan, and the Newcastle pair are keen to finish this year's Hobart race.
