Profile

John Whitfeld skippered MWF Kayle to 11th in PHS in the 2024 Rolex Sydney Hobart after steering the Lyons 54 to fourth in PHS and third in PHS Division 1 in 2023, and 11th in PHS in 2015 when named Kayle - Sailors With Disabilities. She sailed as Faceboat SWD in 2013, after David Pescud skippered the boat to PHS victory in 2007 and led a disabled crew to shatter the record for fastest monohull circumnavigation of Australia in 2003 that still holds today.

Making Waves Foundation is focussed on giving disabled and disadvantaged people opportunities to sail via this yacht and others. MWF has won many accolades, including the Minister’s Volunteer Management Award for a state sporting organisation in 2015, for its dedication to improving the lives of millions of people from NSW through sport. It all started back in the early 1990’s by David Pescud and has gone from strength to strength.
