Z7 is a Beneteau First 45 recently bought by Laurie McAllister. She was last known as Highly Sprung (Mark Spring) and placed eighth to win Division 3 in last year’s race and was 44^th in 2019. Before that, she contested her first Rolex Sydney Hobart in 2008, her then- owner, a Frenchman placing 37^th. Paul Clitheroe bought her and placed 62^nd in 2009, 18^th in 2011 and 37^th in 2013 as Balance. Chartered in 2012, she placed 21^st as Peugeot Surfrider. McAllister, a gregarious Scotsman living in Australia, is new to the race, but tried his hand in November’s protracted Bird Island Race, but like others, retired because of time constraints.
