Oats sweats then celebrates
“We’re back and we’re just very happy to be here,” said Wild Oats XI skipper Mark Richards after the news that a race committee protest had been dismissed and that the 30.48 metre supermaxi owned by Bob Oatley could be officially declared line honours winner of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Protests dismissed – Wild Oats XI announced line honours winner
Following a tense wait, then a protest hearing by the International Jury of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, then another tense wait while the jury deliberated, Wild Oats XI has been exonerated and is now officially the line honours winner of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Fleet trickles into Hobart
Sean Langman and Anthony Bell’s 100-foot super maxi Investec Loyal was the second yacht across the finish line of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, arriving last night just after midnight, three and a half hours behind the provisional line honours winner and race favourite Wild Oats XI.

Derwent River up to its old tricks
While Wild Oats XI sliced up the river in majestic style at 8:30 mid-evening to take provisional line honours, second placed Investec Loyal barely scraped across the line three and a half hours later after an agonising 2 knot crawl in virtually no breeze over the final 10 miles of a race that has at times turned on brutal 40 plus knot winds.
