Entries for the 80th Rolex Sydney Hobart will open on 12 March 2025

Entries for the 80th running of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will open on Wednesday 12 March 2025 at 1400 hours AEDT. The countdown to the world’s most challenging offshore races has begun.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia is proud to celebrate the 80th running of the legendary Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. To honour the history of the race, we will again be including the IRC Grand Veterans and IRC Veterans Divisions and conducting the Southern Cross Cup. The Grand Veterans and Veterans divisions are open to boats launched prior to 1976 and 1995, respectively. The Southern Cross Cup is a team’s trophy, open to teams of three boats from a Club, State or Country.

Beyond the thrill of the Rolex Sydney Hobart, competitors will have the opportunity to extend their offshore campaigns by taking part in the inaugural Trans-Tasman Yacht Race in February 2026.

Organised by the CYCA in cooperation with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland, this 1,270-nautical-mile race across the Tasman Sea will be a new challenge, offering you the chance to make history as the first winners of this new international race.

Competitors involved in both the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and the Trans-Tasman Yacht Race will be able to compete in the Southern Cross Series; a new pointscore incorporating the Cabbage Tree Island Race, the Rolex Sydney Hobart and the inaugural Trans-Tasman Yacht Race. The 172 nautical mile Cabbage Tree Island Race begins on Friday 5 December. The Trans-Tasman Yacht Race will start over three days on Friday 27 February 2026 on Sydney Harbour and finish in Auckland.
