The latest from the Rolex Sydney Hobart
Early this morning this was the closest line honours contest in Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race history - a battle which has only intensified as day two wears on. Three super maxis: Comanche, Black Jack and InfoTrack are within four nautical miles of each other, with Wild Oats XI opting for a further eastward route across Bass Strait, however is still approximately only six miles from her closest rival's port side rail. Overall Winner battles are equally as close, with the lead changing almost by the hour, however Grace O'Malley, the 'pirate queen of the seas' currently holds the top spot.
- Comanche holds the line honours lead, however is currently due to cross the Derwent River finish line less than 30 minutes in front of Black Jack, who has performed exceptionally well after winning the Sydney Harbour sprint to the Heads.
- InfoTrack comes next of the supers, with Wild Oats XI bringing up the rear of the 100-foot yachts.
- Ichi Ban, the overall win favourite has been relegated to 26th in IRC Overall, paving the way for the likes of Grace O'Malley, Showtime, Midnight Rambler and 2 Unlimited to move up the current standings. The battle, however, is ongoing - and will be for some time yet!
- No additional retirements have occurred since our 0600hrs update, leaving the fleet at 81, with four retirements.
