Flying Fish Arctos

Andrew Corless skippered this training vessel, Flying Fish Arctos, to PHS eighth in last year’s race. With Alex Martin skippering and to the delight of the crew, the Radford 50 won PHS, beating all Division 1 yachts overall. The previous year, the McIntyre 55 placed PHS sixth overall after placing PHS 10th in 2015. Her best results apart from 2017, all PHS, have been winning in 2010, second in 2009 and third in 2012. In the 2014 Rolex Sydney Hobart, the boat finished PHS 18th after finishing 10th in 2013. Her other Hobart results, all under PHS, comprise: 16th in 2009, seventh in 2007 and 2008, and sixth in 2011. The crew typically contains a mix of local experience and international trainees, all graduates of the Flying Fish sailing school.

Every year a crew of enthusiastic amateurs from around the world join the Flying Fish Sail Academy in Sydney to compete in the iconic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Flying Fish Arctos has completed 13 Rolex Sydney Hobart’s coming first overall in PHS class in 2010 and 2017 and 2nd in class in 2009. Arctos is a powerful cutter-rigged Radford 55. This impressive yacht was built for long distance ocean racing and completed a Southern Ocean circumnavigation in 2003.
