Here is a little treat we thought we would share

Over the years, as the stature of the Sydney Hobart Yacht race has grown to become a national icon sporting event, the race has had songs written about it, Australian postage stamps commissioned, a board game produced, and featured in a beer commercial.

During the 1980’s New South Wales beer company Toohey’s ran an advertising series featuring popular NSW sporting events accompanied by a very catchy jingle. Each commercial had the same jingle with different lyrics. The series was known as the “How do you feel” commercials and featured sports such as horse racing, cricket, surf lifesaving, the infamous Rugby League Grand Final rivalry between Manly and Parramatta, and our very own Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, featuring the  great line honours battle in the 1976 race between Ballyhoo and Apollo (which Ballyhoo won by just over 7 minutes).

The commercial includes Ballyhoo crew Rob Sterling, Billy Peterson, Michael “Zappa” Bell, Steve Bull, Bruce Ramsden, Ian Kiernan, Peter Hankin, Mike Summerton, Stan Darling, Don Vaughan and Don Mickleborough, who passed away on October 23, 2014 aged 90.
