Final instalment of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Historical video series - featuring the 60th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2004

This week we bring you the final episode of our historical video series featuring the 60th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race conducted 10 years ago.

This episode features a wonderful interview with Ray Richmond, a crew member on board Rani in the first race of 1945.

The 60th edition of the race was remembered for only half the 116 fleet finishing the race because of rough conditions experienced in the first 24 hours. It will also be remembered for the dramatic rescue of the crew of Skandia after her canting keel failed in large seas forcing the crew to abandon ship. All were safely retrieved by the Tasmania Police vessel Van Diemen.

Line honours was won by the brand new 90 foot canting keel maxi Nicorette with the Tattersalls Cup won by UK entrant Aera.

On behalf of the CYCA Archives Committee we hope you have enjoyed our seven part video series presented to you as our way of helping celebrate the 70th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
