Crews racing in this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race have an opportunity to help the worthwhile charity OzHarvest, which collects food from various areas then distributes it to many charities.
“We regularly raise money for charities,” says Kendi Kellett, a member of the associates committee at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, organisers of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
“OzHarvest collects food from various areas and distributes it to many charities. Those competitors who find themselves in the unfortunate position of retiring from Rolex Hobart Race can donate any excess food by phoning Margot Donde at OzHarvest on 9516 3877 or email margotdonde@westnet.com.au and a van will come and pick up the food.
"It is then given to needy charities,” says Kendi.
One of the aims of the associates committee is to assist charities. Their main charity is the Children's Hospital at Randwick. All proceeds from the Christmas hamper raffle go toward helping the hospital buy much needed equipment and machines.
This year, OzHarvest caught the eye of the associates committee. With the race starting on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, the committee's thoughts go out to the many people in need. - Di Pearson
