Binda - 1973 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

Binda - 1973 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

This video and a second video of the 1974 Sydney to Hobart Yacht race was originally shot on super 8 film and lay unwatched for about 40 years until it was recently "re-discovered" and converted to digital format.

The film details the participation of the masthead sloop Binda, a Swanson 36, in the 1973 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Binda was owned and skippered by Tony Rundle, later to become a Tasmanian Cabinet Member and Premier of Tasmania. Tony is also the narrator for the film.

The film was shot mainly by Dr Tom Moreton, of Devonport, Tasmania, who also edited the footage, and Binda crew member James Bramich, also from Devonport.  Sadly some of the crew members shown in the film are now deceased.
